Youth Service

Ko te tupu rangatahi te oranga tonutanga o te hāpori

This service helps you figure out the hard stuff so you can focus on what’s important to you

Towards Independence

For many years we’ve been contracted by the Ministry of Social Development to deliver the Youth Service in Porirua.

This service is for teen parents and youth aged 16 or 17 who are in need of financial support from the government; and our NEET service offers support to those aged 16 or 17 who aren’t in education, employment or training. The aim is to assist these young people through tough times. It is about stepping in early to help these rangatahi gain the skills to get a job and have an independent future.

Our staff also facilitate parenting and budgeting courses. Working with other community organisations, it helps youth to develop money management skills and teen parents are encouraged and inspired to grow great kids. These young people are also assisted with their driver licences and with learning about future careers.

“The staff helped me get back to college to get my qualifications, get my learner and now my restricted licence. They have helped me to be financially stable.”

“The best part of the course was being able to talk about being a mum and ways to become a better parent.”
