Careers Event at Te Kura Maori o Porirua

09/02/2017

“Find your passion and you will never work a day in your life”

The start of the school year was off to a great start for Te Kura Maori o Porirua Year 9-13 students. A two day careers event, coordinated by Partners Porirua and school staff, saw local experts share their work experiences with students.
It was fantastic for the students to hear first-hand about all the different career pathways. A resounding message from all the speakers was to find something you are passionate about, give it your all and your job will be a joy. There are lots of people out there to help you get to where you want to be.

As Education Partnership Facilitator it was a wonderful project to be a part of, there is so much support in the business community to share their knowledge and passion with the next generation.

Student feedback was very positive with Kamiria DeMuth saying, “I really enjoyed this experience because it gave me an idea of what I want to do”.

On day one, the speakers included Phillip Reidy whose experience included being CEO for BOC gases, setting up the Pauatahanui Lighthouse Cinema and owning and operating an apple orchard. Adrienne Murray who runs a Human Resources company, Vai Leavaiseeta who is a Lawyer at Whitireia Community Law Centre and Alma Higgins a Microbiologist at ESR.
