Celebrating rangatahi with our ‘Changing lives’ publication

“As a community we have the power to believe in our young people so they can believe in themselves.”

At our core is the concept of Tupu rangatahi – elevating rangatahi, it’s why we’re here and what we do. And key to that is celebrating the successes of the rangatahi that walk through our doors.

That’s the word from Sāla Henry Samia, our General Manager who says that for some of our young people the act of walking through our door is a massive achievement in its own right. “We’ve created a space and a team that welcomes young people, breaks down barriers and makes things happen. We believe in them and that goes a long way to rangatahi believing in themselves.”

We’ve recently released our new ‘Changing lives every day!’ publication. After 25 years in operation this is a snapshot of where we’ve come from, where we are now, our services, and the difference we’ve made to the lives of our young people in the past year, says Henry.

Did you know that every year we:

• Assist more happy and healthy rangatahi to work in great jobs, lead fulfilling lives, and contribute to society
• Recognise Porirua secondary school achievers at the Porirua Youth Awards
• Hold regular business and education networking forums
• Celebrate the city’s successful young employees with the Porirua Young Employee Awards
• Organise citizenship and career pathway events that are attended by hundreds of rangatahi
• Deliver $5.90 social value for every $1.00 invested in our Drive 4 Life programme
• Honour resilience and achievement with our Tupu Rangatahi Awards

We think that’s an impressive list for a not-for-profit grass roots community organisation like ours. But it’s not something we can achieve in isolation.
