Jobfest 2016 - jobs, careers, fun, success!

Young job-seekers flooded through Pātaka Art + Museum, hoping to find the perfect job. With 40 employers and educators there to help, young people were connected with networks of opportunities.

Partners Porirua Business Development Manager, Hine King, says the number of job-hunters ready to get into the workforce was amazing to see, “It was a good indication of how they came job ready, dress ready and CV ready”. Partners Porirua is a non-profit organisation that promotes and facilitates working relationships between businesses and educators. “We’re keen to get people into the workforce”.

Mrs King says the idea came from Porirua Youth 2 Work Movement who are a group of “movers and shakers”, banding together to invest in young people. “It was about identifying a way to further learning, but also earning”. Partners Porirua hope that JOBfest will become an annual event that will continue to learn and develop, alongside its community.

JOBfest gave employers the opportunity to invest in their future workforce
– Kateni Sau, NewsWire Editor.

JOBfest gave them the opportunity to talk to candidates who have already been identified as a good fit for the job they have on offer - Daryl Graham, AWF Branch Manager.

JOBfest gives young people the chance to experience first-hand what it takes to be ready for job interviews. It also helps by opening up people’s eyes to more opportunities that’s out there rather than sticking to one opportunity - Moira Faaseu (21) who was interested in a career with NZDF

The event is helpful for those looking for a career that best suits their skills and preparing young people for interviews with potential employers – Job Seekers.
