Driver Mentor

Help get safer drivers on our roads!

Learning to drive opens doors

Learning to drive opens the door to employment and independence helping to prepare young people for the working world.

Volunteer as a community driver mentor on the Partners Porirua Drive 4 Life programme and you’ll help to make this happen.

Young people often struggle to gain their licences because of the cost, poor access to vehicles or experienced drivers to help them practise, and a lack of confidence in progressing through the stages of the licence pathway.

That’s where you come in! Driver mentors are volunteers trained to supervise and encourage positive driving habits on our roads and in our communities. Our mentors love being involved.

We’d love to have you on board. You’ll be patient and a confident driver and you’ll also need to:

  • be 25 years or older
  • have held a full licence for 2 or more years
  • be available for 1-3 hours per week
  • pass a Police check.

In return you’ll get:

  • training from qualified driving instructors
  • ongoing support from our driving team
  • use of our vehicles to support your mentee
  • the chance to make a real difference!

“We are making safer drivers. After being a driving mentor, I can unequivocally say that it makes a difference. The driver becomes better informed and better skilled on the road.”
