FIL relocations firm gets young people moving into employment

Steady growth at commercial relocations firm Fusion Interiors Limited (FIL) was part of the drive to seek new young employees for their Porirua operation.
And when it came to sourcing the right person, FIL Director Keith Clement turned to the Porirua Youth 2 Work Movement which aims to see all Porirua young people in work, training or education.
Through Youth 2 Work, Keith connected with Work and Income Porirua where staff identified 19-year-old Nickoloa Faauga as a suitable candidate for FIL. The company offers commercial office relocations and fit outs, commercial furniture installations and second-hand furniture recycling, sales and leasing.
Nick joined FIL as a business relocations team member and he has gone from strength to strength. Keith commented: “Nick is going really well. He’s enthusiastic and diligent, and he is always learning on the job. Getting connected with Nick through Porirua Youth 2 Work Movement made it easy for us. They linked us up with Work and Income who were able to source Nick for us, and it’s working out great.
“Because it has been so successful, we’re looking to do more work with the Youth 2 Work Movement to get young people into employment.”
Nick’s job involves moving commercial furniture and files, boxing up and installations. He said the days are busy, he is on the go and the teams often works long hours. One day is never the same as the next, and you get to meet lots of new people. He likes the physical side of the job. “It’s like going to the gym and getting paid!”
He said he learnt something new each day because different teams run the jobs differently. He is learning to minimise the work, no double handling, and to use the tools properly. “I’m really enjoying the job. I’m getting to know my place and where I fit in”.
Fusion Interiors Limited (FIL) has been based in Porirua since 2014 and has offices in three other locations across the country employing around 70 people.
