Community Driver Mentor

Learning to drive opens the door to employment and independence helping to prepare young people for the working world.

Volunteer as a community driver mentor on the Partners Porirua Drive 4 Life programme and you’ll help to make this happen.

Young people often struggle to gain their licences because of the cost, poor access to vehicles or experienced drivers to help them practise, and a lack of confidence in progressing through the stages of the licence pathway.

That’s where you come in! Driver mentors are volunteers trained to supervise and encourage positive driving habits on our roads and in our communities. Our mentors love being involved.

We’d love to have you on board. You’ll be patient and a confident driver and you’ll also need to:

  • be 25 years or older
  • have held a full licence for 2 or more years
  • be available for 1-3 hours per week
  • pass a Police check.

In return you’ll get:

  • training from qualified driving instructors
  • ongoing support from our driving team
  • use of our vehicles to support your mentee
  • the chance to make a real difference!

Become a Member of the Board of Trustees

We are a locally based not-for-profit organisation which is looking for special community minded people to join our Board of Trustees and help us to enrich the lives of young people in Porirua.

You’ll have a passion for helping young people to thrive. You might be involved in business, education, youth employment, training or just want to see rangatahi do well in society.

Some of our long-standing Board members have completed their term so we currently have vacancies for two new Board members.

Expressions of interest for these two positions have now closed, however, you are still welcome to express an interest for any future positions that become available. Read on below to find out more, then click the ‘Express your interest’ button and fill in the form.

Do you:

  • understand the not-for-profit environment and have previous Board experience, or can bring relevant skills to the table
  • have availability to attend monthly Board meetings (the second Thursday of the month) and represent Partners Porirua at functions and events
  • agree to a Police vetting check

If this sounds like you and you’re keen to get involved, you’ll be expected to:

  • support the organisation to develop strong networks with stakeholders and funders
  • monitor policy, financial sustainability and risk management processes
  • ensure succession planning for continuity and revitalisation
  • understand the requirements of the Trust Deed
  • annually review and uphold the Board Charter.

You can check out our current Board of Trustees here.
